For years and years, I’ve lived my life as a woman who has been told about sex and shown about sex from a man’s perspective. As a woman, I found that there were many times throughout this book where I found myself relating to what Holmes was saying, feeling, experiencing and expressing. Etenkin loppua kohden parani huomattavasti, nautin erityisesti rehellisestä kuvauksesta omasta seksuaalisuudesta raskauden jälkeen.

However, I really struggled with the style, which teetered between embarassment and a sort of dumbed down chumminess, making use of added letters, multiple exclamation marks and general "look at me, hihihi, isn't this silly. In this no-holds-barred memoir, Holmes tackles what happens when a woman takes the time to explore what’s important to them and also to have faith in themselves for finding out. A humorous, self-deprecating, and self-effacing but intelligent and inquisitive narrator takes us on a belated journey of sexual self-discovery that is both educational and liberating.

At times, the jolly tone and self-depricating humour got on my nerves (the latter is fortunately lost more and more), sometimes all the tantra praising was a bit much and I'd really prefer it if authors didn't feel like they need to equate women with vaginas and men with penisses in every other sentence. Although the inconsistencies feel forgivable and the best course of action feels like it’s just to ignore them.

Enlightening, inspiring, funny, shocking and brave, every woman should get a copy' Stylist I want to have slow sex, work out what to do with a penis, and experience the fourteen different types of female orgasm. What we then have is a very frank, funny, astute and intelligent journey as Holmes explores her own sexuality. When it came to sex she still felt like a novice: she lacked confidence and felt incapable of asking for what she wanted. It’s brilliant and I can only say that if you don’t read this book then you’re missing out (seriously! It is a book to give to your friends and chat about while devising a plan to overthrow the patriarchy.Roaming around for 200,000 years and yet it's only in the most recent heart beat where the times are 'slowly' starting to change in how women are perceived and treated.

Your courage in sharing various aspects of your experience is truly commendable, and I am thankful for the opportunity to have read your words. A very personal spiritual journey, of discovering yourself, your sexuality, and about the paternalistic (one could say misogynistic) society we live in. Of course there's an argument that I'm not as liberal as I think I am, but in my defence, I've not gone all Mary Whitehouse, and I read the book to the end and was entertained by it. I identified very strongly with Lucy's experiences before she went on this journey, and I expect many women will.Tucked among the rest, you’ll find a BDSM checklist, a recipe for consent, and bits that feel like a sex-ed lesson. This presents a nicely accessible way for people to read about concepts and therapies that they wouldn’t normally pick up a book on. I found myself reading out passages of it to my boyfriend, as I found sections that expressed exactly what I had felt in the past, but in a much more coherent, eloquent way! Comparisons with Caitlin Moran come to mind, but where the latter always aims for the punchline, Holmes is much more genuine in both her biography and her humour. God do we need this book' Caroline Criado Perez 'It's really, really bloody good, a hilarious, moving sexual odyssey' --Beth McColl --This text refers to the paperback edition.

Mas mete em cima da mesa, principalmente, a urgência em saber o que queremos, em dizer que não e em consentir e aguardar consentimento. She talks about her first proper, slow, pleasurable sexual encounter and describes how she cried in the end and thought that she didn't _deserve_ to be treated like that. Edes naiskehon anatomiaa ei ole haluttu ymmärtää, eihän siitä ole kovin montaa vuotta kun vasta klitoriksen todellinen koko ja muoto paljastui. Please note: I posted all the notes I highlighted in the book directly from the Kindle app to Goodreads. However, apart from the occasional stylistic disagreement (some of the language was a bit twee for me) I thought this was an excellent book, a really good introduction to lots of ideas, and I think I'm going to get my own copy. But I wonder to what extent women of colour, women of varied levels of abilities, or transwomen, or gender queer women will relate to the book. As you read through, more and more it feels as though the intended demographic is simply previous versions of herself. Her last novel, Just a Girl Standing In Front of a Boy, won the Romantic Novelists Association's 'Rom Com of the Year' in 2015.
