With the exception of the Daily Offices and Complines, which have been re-issued with melody lines for those parts where a sung version exists, the material included is new. The psalmist said ‘Seven times a day have I praised you’ (Psalm 119: 164) which is an approach used in many communities. The book includes daily prayer services, daily readings and prayers for set times of the year, as well as prayers/devotions based in the life of Celtic saints. International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.

Sometimes I might forget about this book for a short while, but when I go back to it, it is a whole new life and a bright treasure chest all over again! This is a rich treasury that is loved and trusted by individuals, ministers, families, groups and communities across the world. This sense of the reality of what the incarnation brings into our world — both on a personal and a public level — is best reflected in the book’s prayers, which are beautifully and authoritatively written. The format is traditional: Bible passage (helpfully included in full), followed by articulate and warm commentary.

The first in a two-volume collection of liturgies, prayers and meditations from the Northumbria Community, inspired by ancient Celtic Christianity, but reaching out to bring inspiration and comfort to all today who seek to be still and to find spiritual truth. The culture in which they lived and worked, and the issues they faced as they sought to seek and serve God, mirror our own times, and the questions we grapple with, in an uncanny way that belies the centuries that lie between us. A section on rites of passage suggests prayers and rituals for the pivotal times of life: birth, rebirth, marriage, midlife, and bereavement, as well as blessings and graces for all occasions. The Advent antiphons are appropriately included, and the twelve days of Christmas covered, taking us to Epiphany and onward to Candlemas. I introduced my Education for Ministry (EFM) group to the Complines, and they have become a regular part of our worship together.

Each weekend has a longer meditation centred on canticles from Isaiah, to be absorbed on both Saturday and Sunday – days of anticipation and resurrection. We hear which carol, or poem, or prayer is special to them and why it has a special place in their hearts. Praying "Celtic Daily Prayer" several times a week, I have found this prayer guide a lovely way to deepen my intimacy with God and connect with my Celtic heritage.
